Search and politics

The internet’s been abuzz with politics lately which is a refreshing change from the banal drivel that normally swashes around it.

So what can SEO tell us about public opinion at the moment?  Well firstly, we can look at Google suggest to see hot topics being searched for at the moment and perhaps gain an insight into what people think of the three main candidates:

We’ll start by typing in the leaders names:

Note the absence of David Cameron policies, manifesto etc.  This is what people will purport to be interested in when interviewed yet peoples search habits are far more revealing.  Getting a picture of the Conservative leaders defaced poster holds far more social kudos than posting his manifesto on your facebook profile.

Hmm.  Bullying, jokes and glass eye. Not looking too rosy for Gordon along with the fct that an estate agents seems to be more popular a search term.

Whilst the Nicholas Clegg and his 30 women statement makes an appearance here – not sure if that’s a good or a bad thing?

More revealing is what happens when we add “is” at the end of our searches

David Cameron is hot anyone?  Really?

Whilst Nick gets just one mention

The last suggestion here seems pretty chilling – along with the one about him being someones shepherd!?!
